Stuck with a small marketing budget? Go viral
Were you ever stuck with a small marketing budget for an eCommerce or business that converts above average? Weird problem to have, right?
How can you make waves and attract qualified prospects without any money? Easy, Go viral.
But, how do you go viral?
At ODM World, our strategic approach to marketing is strongly influenced by Jonah Berger’s book : Contagious: Why Things catch on.
“How does it make people look to talk about a product or idea? Most people would rather look smart than dumb, rich than poor, and cool than nerdy. Just like the clothes we wear and the cars we drive, what we talk about influences how others see us. It’s social currency. Knowing about cool things—like a blender that can tear through an iPhone—makes people seem sharp and aware. So, to get people talking we need to craft messages that help them achieve these desired impressions. We need to find our inner remarkability and make people feel like insiders. We need to leverage game mechanics to give people ways to achieve and provide visible symbols of status that they can show to others.”
The next thing that comes to mind after reading this quote is: how do you build social currency in a way that drives revenue?
How do you build social currency in a way that drives revenue?
To build social currency, you will need to provide one of the following six “dimensions,” or benefits, to your target audience:
-Affiliation: Offering a sense of community among your audiences
-Conversation: Engaging in the conversations around your brand and vertical
-Utility: Creating usefulness and value for current and potential customers
-Advocacy: Developing strong feelings of loyalty towards your brand, there’s nothing stronger than a word to mouth recommendation
-Information: Giving valuable and shareable information
-Identity: Providing users with their own identity in a group
When planning your social strategy, you should ask yourself: “How can I provide greater utility?” or “How can I give customers a sense of affiliation?” By keeping these questions in mind, you’re on the right track to generate more word to mouth.
Now, all that’s left to do is design your marketing tactics in a way that showcases those dimensions, no matter which platform you’re using.
